History

Howrah Sangha Adarsha Balika Vidyalaya, a pioneer in the field of women education, is the result hard work and selfless sacrifice of several social activists, great thinkers and educators. Established by Howrah Sangha on the auspicious day of Janmasthami in 1925, as a primary school in central Howrah. This school bears a testimony of greatness and cultural heritage.

It was upgraded to class VIII standard in 1960 to class X in 1964 and finally to higher secondary in the year 2000.  Presently the school imparts education in science, arts and commerce streams as well as in vocational subjects.

The school maintains a homely ambience where girls maintain good academic record throughout the history of the school. In 1974, Sukla Chakraborty secured 4th position in board exams and that tradition continued till the date. Apart from academics, students are encouraged to take part in several extracurricular activities like sports, drama, drawing, dance, singing, recitation, science exhibition, quiz contest and so on. In 2014, the school secured 4th position in Nirmal Vidyalaya Objijan, organized by Sarba Sikha Mission – a prestigious achievement, since 541 schools, all over West Bengal, had been a part of this obhijan. The school also organize karate classes, Kabaddi and Volley-ball training in regular intervals.

In 1990, the then headmistress, Smt. Padma Roy, got awarded from the honorable President for her contribution towards the development of this school.

Computer classes were made compulsory in 2001, when the school received financial aid from Mr. Swadesranjan Chakraborty, the then M.P. for overall development of the area as well as the school.

Our present M.P., Mr. Prasun Bandopadhyay, has also helped us in several ways for improving the infrastructure of the school.

With the co-operation, aid and blessings from all our well-wishers, we are working consistently to make the school even more successful in its coming year.
