History

                 Lodhoma, initially known as Budhabaarey if situated by the bank of river Lodhoma. The name Budhabaarey was taken from weekday “Budhabaar”, i.e. Wednesday in English calendar, as Wednesday was and still is a market day. Hence the name “Budhabaarey hatt”. It is known around 1950’s Budhabaarey came to be officially named as Lodhoma Bazar after the name of the river.

                 Geographically it is a valley having moderate climate. Highest temperature recorded during summer is 28-29 degree Celsius and lowest during winter is 3-5 degree Celsius.

                  Present population of Lodhoma bazaar according to census report of ICDS record is 810. People live a pastoral life, depending mostly on agriculture as the main source of income.

                Lodhoma is surrounded by following villages; Kankiabong Busty, Sumbuck Busty, Mazigaon Busty, Mazum  Busty, Sunmangaon, Fatingtaar Busty, Lampati Busty, Tubun busty, Yakreybong busty, Batasey Busty, Chota Hatta, Tumphuwa Busty, Dilpali gaon, Lingseybong and Namla busty.

              The famous Hydro Power Plant that started generating electricity from 1995, Stage-II Ramam Hydel Project, is also located here.

              “Education is the backbone of our society” N. Muringla. Education has always played an important role in the development of society.  It is known that Scottish Mission school (primary) was established around 1920 for the promotion of education here in lodhoma. In the post independence period the school was recognized as Lodhoma Junior Basic School. Unfortunately there was no high school in the locality for the students who wished to continue their education beyond standard V. Only the students coming from financially sound family could afford to go Darjeeling town or make their child walk one and half hour uphill (short-way) to Rimbick for further studies. Under this circumstances some parents who we can call as social worker from the locality came forward to start high school in early 1980’s to meet the crisis. At this point of time Sri Jaaley Ghalay generously donated his land measuring about one acre for the construction of school building. The names of those founders of this school “LODHOMA HIGH SCHOOL” cannot go unmentioned here. They are;

  1. Late J B Lama
  2. Late Hariram Pradhan

                  They campaigned door to door and raised funds for functioning of school to meet the expenses. Their noble deed to light the torch of education in this valley bore its fruit when the Government of West Bengal came forward to shoulder the burden on 01.05.2000 by granting recognition, under Grant-in-Aid, to the school as Lodhoma Junior High School, that is to function from class V to class VIII. The then Councilor of Rimbick Lodhoma  Constituency Mr S K Lama as an area Councilor had played an important role in getting the school recognized from West Bengal Board of secondary Education. Still the students had to walk one and half hour uphill(short way) to Rimbick Higher Secondary School to pursue further studies, that is to attend and appear for Madhyamik (secondary examination) and Higher Secondary examination.

                   The Members of School Managing Committee consisting of Sri Balaram Subba, Late Ratan Bahadur Lama, Late Indraman Pradhan, Late J B Pariyaar and Sri Sarat Rai along with school staffs worked day and night for up-gradation of School from Junior high School to High School, so that the students could attend and appear secondary examination( Madhyamik Pariksha) from the same school in Lodhoma. After untiring work of members of Managing Committee and school staffs, the pain of walking uphill for one and half hour that the students of this locality had to bear to pursue higher education came to an end as the school was upgraded from Lodhoma Junior High school to Lodhoma High School by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in the year 2012.

                  Since its establishment the school is imparting education to all students coming from surrounding villages from different social category with qualified and trained teachers, specialized in their respective subjects. The support of parents, people from locality, concerned department (Education department), higher Administrative Authorities and Stage II Ramam Hydel Project has helped school to function smoothly and flourish as well. It must be mentioned here that Ramam Hydel Project has always extended a generous hand through its CSR Schemes in infrastructural development of the school by providing furniture’s and constructing well furnished additional classrooms. In short the establishment (RHP) has been playing a role of good Samaritan in the development of the locality.
