History

A Brief History of the school

In the beginning of the last century Scottish women missionaries started opening primary schools in different strategic areas of Kurseong and Tindharia. The present Tindharia Girls' Higher Secondary School had it's beginning then. What started as a humble primary school was upgraded to a Private Junior School in 1950 after the missionaries left. The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education recognized it as a two class Junior High School in 1961 and as four class Junior High School in 1964. After which for 35 long years the school went through different phases where it saw even difficult times when our well wishers, specially Mr. & Mrs. B.B.Rai and some others with their unselfish and unceasing support, saw to it that the school stood for truth. To them the school remain ever gratefuland their support ever remains fresh in our memory. At the end of those long years the school was finally upgraded to a High School in 1999. It was a befitting reward for the struggle it went through.

From 1998 the medium of instruction was changed to English from Nepali.

From 2011 the school has been upgraded to Higher Secondary.
