History

Till the Independence of India, there was not a single secondary school within Mirik Block except at Mirik. The students from different parts of Mirik used to go to Mirik on foot as there was no vehicle as we have today. Under such circumstances, a group of enthusiastic people came forward to set up a school at Soureni in the very beginning of 50th decades of 20th century. After a painstaking effort, the founding fathers were able to get government recognition in the year 1956. The first and foremost Headmaster was Late. Suk Bahadur Rai, who was a man of dignity and dedicated teacher. At present, the school has achieved Higher Secondary status enriched with Arts, Science and Vocational(Under WB State Council of Vocational of Education & Training) Streams at plus two level.
