Raj Rajeswari Girls School was established in 1925 as a primary school in a rented house. The name of the school was then Bengali Girls' School. In May 1930 Raj Rajeswari Hall was built on the land and with the money donated by Rai Bahadur Sashi Bhusan Dey , the school was shifted there. Then classes were held in hall room made separate into classrooms by movable wooden particulars Rai Bahadur S B Dey made a trust named S.B.Dey Memorial Trust and handed over the charge to its two beneficiaries - 1) Bengali Girls' School to later to the need of education to the Bengalee population here and 2) Bengalee Association to promote cultural activities.
In 1935 the school was renamed as Kurseong Raj Rajeswari Girls' School as directed by the Kurseong Municipality. In the course of time, the school was upgraded step by step from class V to higher classes. In 1958 recognition as a two-class junior high school and in 1968 as a four-class, junior high school was granted . Teachers were recruited in each upgradation. In 1978 the school was upgraded to a high school, recognized by and affiliated to West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
Separate classrooms for the upper section were built on the southern part of the hall and permission for the construction was accorded by the Trust Board as the basic purpose of the Trust Board is to promote educational activities. Because of a shortage of fund classrooms had to be built with wooden structure and tin sheet roofing. Afterwards, funds were granted by the government and Trust Board gave permission to construct classrooms for high section and accordingly plan for the two-storied concrete building was made. But it could not be materialised again because of fund crunch. Meanwhile, high school classes were started in the part of the building where the present high school section stands. Classes of primary section continued to be held in the hall room but later most of the windows and doors were closed with brick and cement resulting in darkness inside hall premises. This and other factors made the primary classes to be shifted to the rooms meant for junior high school. Both the section continued to use the hall premises for holding assembly and other school-related activities. In 1994 a small room was built at the entrance of junior section in the memory of Dr R.N Halder by his family members which was being reclaimed back.
