History
With the role objective ‘To educate the female child of the area and to empower them' , Ramakrishna Higher Secondary school for Girls, Kurseong an educational institution situated in the beautiful hill town of Kurseong, caring to the need of education of girls coming from different tea gardens and villages was established by Ramakrishna Vedanta Math/ mission in the year 1956- 57. The former Secretary of the School was Late Rev. Swami Bhaveshada a disciple of Swami Abhedananda.
The School starting from class 1 with a few students and recognised as Ramakrishna Junior basic school is now a full- fledged Higher Secondary School .It has been contributing towards the growth and development of the society and fulfilling its social commitment by empowering the girl child since its inception.
The School is active both academic and extra-curricular activities . This is evident from the fact that the results of Madhyamik Pariksha and Higher Secondary Examination has remained excellent every year . The students are kept engaged in socially relevant activities through the National Service Scheme (
The school has an all Girl’s Brass Brand Unit, which has participated in the Republic Day Parade 2017 in Kolkata and was awarded the ‘Best Band’ Award. The Marching Contingent has also participated in the Republic Day Parade 2005 and 2016 in Kolkata and was awarded the Best Contingent ‘ award in both years.
Ramakrishna H S Scholl For Girls, Kurseong has been a prestigious institute with many commendable teachers like Miss Shanti Pradhan (Retd. Headmistress, ) and late Mrs Gauri Sau (Retd. Headmistress Ramakrishna Pre Basic School, Units I) being the National Teacher Awardees Mrs. Lily Chettri (Retd. Headmistress) being the ‘Siksha Ratna’ Awardees the dedication and selfless service of the various teachers of School have also been honored by other prestigious awards like ‘Medal of Merit’, ‘Silver Star’ etc.
The school has been successful to produce writers artists, advocates, social workers, politicians, teachers etc.
The present Headmistress of the School, Mrs Chandrakala Yolmo (Thapa) believes in the overall development of the girl child and hence she is dedicated towards empowering the girl students not only academically but also to prepare them to face the world with dignity and come out identity for themselves.
The School continues to maintain its high standards in the matter of imparting excellent education as well as upliftment of the career of the students.
