
Thurbo Primary School Unit–I was the first and one of the oldest school within the premises of Mirik which was established on 1920 under the name “George Babe M.E. School”. The School aimed for providing the independent education that focused on engaging and active learning for the local communities. The first Headmaster of the school was Mr. Prabhudayal Pradhan. The school provided education upto class (IV) Four. Lal Bahadur Sewa who became the first Indian Nepali I.G. Officer acquired his first education from this school. Mr. David Pradhan became the second Headmaster of the school. In 1941, Mr. R.C. Tamang who used to be the resident of Mirik Bazar became the third Principal of the school. Likewise, the school’s growth enhanced rapidly and the name of the school was changed to Thurbo Primary School Unit-I by the Darjeeling Board of School’s in 1956 at the time when the Principal of the school was Mr. J.P. Subba and the name of the school remained same till now. During those days the students number reached from 500-700 due to the least schools present within the Mirik region. The school was built in 1920 with the red roof which is still present as it was. The school also received N.S.B & A.C.R from the Darjeeling Board of School’s. The school continued to flourish and many headmaster, headmistress and school staffs were behind the success of the school.
