History

At the time of Independence, except a few primary schools there was no scope for the people of Nakkati, Pushnadanga, Haribhanga and surrounding villages to pursue secondary education. The nearest educational institutions were either in Coochbehar town or in Dinhata sub-division. There was practically no road communication from these villages to Coochbehar town or Dinhata sub-division. People used to cover the 14 km distance by walking. In such a critical juncture few enlightened persons like late Gunamanta Sarkar(land donor),late Bhabendranath Roy(land donor),late Satish Ch. Bhuimali(land donor) and late Kachimuddin Bepari took a great initiative to establish a secondary school. Their hard-labour ,dedication, financial help and above all their selfless sacrifice influenced the then minister late Satish Singh and M.L.A. late Umesh Ch. Roy Mondal to recommend the Govt. of West Bengal that the locality badly needed an educational institution. As a result of this effort Nakkati Pushnadanga High School was established on the 17th March,1953 as a class II scheduled Junior High School over a land of 3 acres. It was upgraded to Secondary school in 1966 and to a Higher Secondary school in 2010. At present there are 1000(one thousand) students, 23(twenty three) permanent teachers, 4(four) para teachers, 2(two) clerks and 2 group D staffs. In the early days students from different parts of Coochbehar district used to come here to study. They stayed in a near by boardinghouse. The first Head Master of this institution late Gour Ch Paul and assistant teachers  like late Karuna Kumar Sarkar, late Chandra Kanta Sarkar, late Boyzar Rahaman dedicated their whole lives for the overall development of this institution. We are grateful to them. The institution produced many humane beings over the years and will continue to do so.
