History

More than a hundred years ago when there was no school in this area, and a large part of the population was deprived of the light of education - in such situation, there was a great effort to shine the light of the first knowledge here through the efforts of a few educated compassionate enthusiasts. Then with the sympathy and help of Rajmata Nishimayee Devi, spending money from the 'King's Treasury', M.E. School was established.

There after, this place was named 'Nishiganj' and the school 'Nishimayee M. E. School' after the name of Rajmata Nishimayee Devi.

Evidence of the identity of Rajmata Nishimayee Devi states that she was the Second wife of Maharaja Narendra Narayan (1847 - 1863) and the mother of Maharaja Nriprendra Narayan.

On the other hand, her father's house was on the south side of the present Nishiganj Nishimayee High School. She was the daughter of  Late Kaltu Harikarjee, the ancestor of Sri Brajendra Harikarjee. In the father's house, her name was 'Nipuchi'. In time she became known as Nishimayee.

The then established Nishimayee M. E. School had 4 rooms, among them 3 rooms for class rooms and 1 for post office. The first headmaster of the school was Late Srikanta Eshore (Pandit), a resident of Haribhanga. The school was then unpaid and the teachers were given special allowances from the "King's Treasury'. Thereafter, arrangements were made to pay the salary of the teachers.

In the beginning this school was from 1st standard to 6th standard. Subsequently, the government ordered (G.O. No. 434 dated 05/03/1959) to convert this school with the other 44 schools in Coochbehar district from class 1 standard to class VIII standard as called "Nishimayee Complete Basic School'.

This school was again turned into "Nishimayee Junior High School' by government order (G.O. No. 432. Edu.(s) dated 05/03/1969.

This school has been approved by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education ( G.O. No. - S / Recog / 2000/ 491  dt 26/7/2000) as 'Nishimayee High School' since 2000 under the normal rules of the changing world and as "Nishimayee High School (HS)' since 2006 by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. (G.O. No. - DS (A) SD / 301 / Recog / 06   dt 27/7/2006)
