History

Tufanganj iladevi girls' high school is one of the best educational institutions in tufanganj subdivision as well as in  coochbehar district of West Bengal. Since last 56 years the institution is serving  tirelessly for the upliftment of women education in the locality.

Every history has its own history.likewise tufanganj iladevi girls'high school had a history before the initial stage (29th January,1964)on which today's iladevi girls'high is standing. There was only one M.E school in tufanganj (that was later named as N.N.M high school). In this school one room was provided for the girls' school for running classes . Probably on 5th August ,1909 this girl's school was established comprising of only eight students. Later in the year 1918 this school was established   in the name of iladevi girls'high school (M.E). Maharaja jitendra Narayan bhup bahadur named this school as iladevi girls'high school.Earlier the institution was known as tufanganj girls' high School.M.L.A of that  time sri Shankar Sen Ishor and educationist Manindra Nath Chakroborty along with other renowned person tried to uplift the school from a complete basic to a girls' high school.on 29th January ,1964 the school became a girl's high School.smt.Mina Bhowal looked after the school for the first 11days,then late Aloka Manta was the first Head mistress of the school.

In course of time according to G.o No_171 S E (H.S) dated 06.9.1995 and DS (A) SD /330 (17) recog /95 dated 08.09.95  in the economic year 1995_96 the school was uplifited to Higher secondary school .

The seedling of 1909 has now become a deep-rooted plant .there are 1500 students now reading in this school .at  First economics , philosophy , political  science and histroy were mainly taught in higher secondary section but at present Sanskrit ,   Geography, computer are also taught .

Education, sports, cultural activities in every sector the school is now doing its best in the subdivision, in the district as well as in the state. In 2019 Debasmita Saha and Gayatri Modak secured the 2nd and 7th positions respectively in the madhyamik examination merit list published by W.B.B.S.E. from mock Parliament to cultural programme, quiz competition organized by  state government, the students are enhancing the glory of this institution day by day. All the teaching and non teaching staff is proud to be a part of this success.
