The school was officially established in 1924 by the early Swedish missionaries of the then-native state of Cooch Behar . Before that the school was conducted beside river Torsha in Ghughumari area.In 1924 in the house of Dr. KumaBhabendra Narayan , civil sergent of Kumilla, was given to them for the school . But a great increase of the number of students made the authority to shift the school in its present place . They were given necessary permission by the Royal Court of Cooch Behar to use Rajgon hostel for the school . The school was then known as Swedish Missionary school . After the indipendence in 1948 the then students oraganizied Saraswati Puja in the school campus. This incident was against the rule of the Swedish missionary and they left the school immidiatly .In March 25 , 1948 a new commitee was formed for the smooth running of the school and letter sent to Calcutta university for prior permission . Eventually thre Royal Court was requested to change the name of the school . On 19 th January 1949 the Royal Court proposed the new name "Cooch Behar Maharaja Nripendra Narayan High English School " . Later the school was known as "Maharaja Nripendra Narayan High School "
