History

In pre-independent India late Anadbandhu Sarkar who himself worked as the headmaster of the school established this school after the name of his elder sister Parbati Debi on 5th March, 1931.The school came to be known as Kaliyaganj Parbati Sundari High School. It sprawls over an wide area of 23 bighas of land (approx.7acres) donated by late Anadbandhu Sarkar himself and some other well-wishers of Kaliyaganj, then an idyllic village. It can hardly be imagined that the present mansion like pucca building surrounded the rectangular main campus on all sides had started its initial journey with only a few rooms made of the thrashed bamboo and the tin shade with the only motto to bring the new generation from darkness to enlightenment. A big playground of the school attached to the eastern building always imbue the students to be interested in games and sports.

The school has reached its present situation through the different phases. It started its initial journey as Middle English School only with fifth and sixth standard classes. Later in 1942,the school got the status of High English School with four more classes ie VII, VIII, IX & X. High English School affiliation was granted provisionally with extension upto 1944 by Calcutta University. Originally it was co-educational school. But in course of time many more schools including girls' schools being set up, this school turned to be a boys' high school. It remained boys' high school as long as XI class H.S course with three strems ie Humanities, Science & Commerce continued. In 1976 when the school was upgraded as Higher Secondary School and new integrated H.S Course was introduced, the girl students were allowed to study along with male students in the integrated course. Since then, the school has been functioning as co-educational only for H. S course.

It being the only educational institution, students of adjacent and far off villages flocked here for education. To provide them accommodation, a boys' hostel was constructed. Late Sarat Chandra Barman, an eminent well-wisher of the school donated land for the hostel. Thereby the hostel was built in memory of his late father Prasanna Kumar Barman. The hostel became known as Prasanna Kumar Smriti Chhatrabus. Now the building is in dilapidated condition. It can't be renovated for lack of fund. However, a new building with the capacity of only 15 SC&ST students was constructed in 2018 with the fund sanctioned by Tribal Welfare Department, West Bengal Govt.

In 2006 a separated stream of Vocational Course was initiated in the school. A pilot project for Automobile &Security Guard is also being run for the students from class-IX to XII.

The school is just a decade away from its 100th anniversary. It is still one of the prime education centers of the district because of its standard quality education being catered to the learners. The school entered into the merit list of both WBBSE and WBCHSE more than once that bears witness to the excellence and the fame of the school. Besides these brilliant academic achievements, the students are not lagging behind in extracurricular activities like games and sports, cultural events, science exhibition, debate and quiz competitions. Participations in State level and National level cultural competitions, debate and games and sports, National Science Congress speak volumes for cultural richness, high quality of games and sports and other extra-curricular activities and continuous science cultivation of the school.
