A BRIEF HISTORY OF PRACHYA BHARATI VIDYAPITH

In 1935 the freedom fighters of Balurghat set up a haunt at Prachya Bharati Mohanta Para, Keeping contact with Anushilan Samiti and other revolutionary groups for secret meeting and training. Its impact was observedin the Quit India Movement of 1942. Freedom fighter Radhamohan Mahanta was a student at that time and he was the leader of this locality. after Independence in 1947, Prachya Bharati Institution (Club) was established here for social service and cultural development. It gained same in the field of Physical exercise, literature, drama, Red Cross Service, Sports etc. later Radhamohan Mahanta set up Prachya Bharati Vidyapith here on 1st April,1960 with the help of someeminent persons like SachindraNath Guha, Sudhir Chandra Chowdhuri, Radhakamal Mahanta, Girija Shankar Banik. The bright past of this school is still heard in the words of the elders. Former Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy, Prafulla Sen, Shiddharta Shankar Roy, Ajoy Mukherjee, Dr. Joynal Abedin, Ajit Paja, Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi, former President Pranab Kumar Mukherjee attended the School.
