'Education' as defined by Swami Vivekananda 'is the manifestation of perfection already in man' and this institution of ours has been striving to make the education much more effective so that the true purpose of education, i.e. man making can be achieved in a joyful ambience. The very phrase "ache anondo nei voi siksha akhane bodher udoy(No Fear Only Cheer-learning is The Outcome of Realization Here)". Truely the institution since its initial journey has been expanding the light of education in and around Sovanagar. The institution of ours encourages the pupils for the alround development. Sovanagar High school enables the students to develop confidence in themselves and inculcates in them a deep rooted respect for their family, society and for their own country with its rich cultural heritage. And there is no exaggeration in saying that our students are our pride.

With the zeal of reaching the zenith Sovanagar High School started its journry as a 4 class Junior Girls' High School w.e.f 01.01.1962 vide Board's Memo no- 26192/G, dated – 19.12.1962. After that, the institution was converted into co-educational basis on 01.01.1974, vide Board’s Memo No- 200/g, dated 07.06.1974 On 01.01.1987, this School was upgraded as Sovanagar High School vide Board’s Memo No- s/337, dated 27.07.1987. Finally, Sovanagar High School was upgraded as Higher Secondary school vide W.B.C.H.S.E Memo No- Ds(A)SD/260/Rewg/06, dated 15.07.2006, w.e.f 2006-2007 academic session. Presently our school has more than 2800 students. The school provieds a good number of amenities to the students. The school has a well equipped and enriched library. The school has three separate laboratories for physices chemistry and biology. To arouse interest among the students the school is also equipped with digital classrooms. The school also takes special care for the proper senitation and hygiene of the students. To inculcate a strong sense of descipline among the students the NCC cadets are there. the school has recently launched "Anti Plastic Campaign" for which the school got a dominant place in the leading news papers of the country. The school has an "Anti Platic Squad". The stuents of ours do not lag behind the cultural activities. Various cultural programmes are undertaken throughout the year so that they can give their best to the institution. In 2014 Sovanagar High School bagged "Nirmal vidayalaya Puraskar" and in 2018 it was endowed with the prestigeous "Shisu Mitra Award". In 2019 the school was crowned with the "Jamini Roy Award".
