History

  • Victor Hugo had once said, “He who opens a school door, closes a prison” and this is exactly what the renowned philanthropic zamindar of Muktagacha (under Mymensingh of Bangladesh) ‘ Sri Jibendrakishore Acharya Chowdhury S/o Jitendrakishore Acharya Chowdhury ' had decided to start educating a few students in a Kali Mandir of Kalitaladiar in 1955. There is a rumour that at that time, he used to live in a tent in Kalitaladiar, where he later constructed his own palace in 1957.

  • After having his palace constructed, he shifted the teaching  of students from the Kali mandir and started, what can be called a ‘Paathshala’ under a "Neem "tree near his palace the same year.

  • Later in 1958, with the help of the then education minister Sourindranath Mishra, established a Junior Basic school (Class I-V) as a  craft centric education with not more than 10-15 students, in the name of his grandfather, Raja Jagat Kishore Acharya. The school consisted of only three teachers- Rama Roy, Jyotsna Majumder, and Baikunthya Pal. In order to further carry forward his zeal for crafts, he established ‘Taant Ghor’ with 6 ‘taants’ and recruited Himangshu Dey as the craft trainer.

  • Later in 1962, his thirst for social development and welfare compelled him to apply for a Senior Basic School to the DPI. His obsession with education of the young minds and stubbornness for a higher level of education, slowly persuaded the Government of West Bengal to grant the recognition as a Senior Basic School, by the name of Raja Jagat Kishore Senior Basic School (Class VI-VIII) in 1963. In the initial days, education started in the ‘Taant Ghor’ itself, but after a year , in the auspicious birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (23rd January of 1964), the renowned scientist Satyendranath Bose laid the foundation for the establishment of a dedicated school building in the same place where the present High School currently stands. And Sri Jibendrakishore Acharya Chowdhury, appointed Shibendramohan Tribedi as the first Headmaster, and Shambhunath Banerjee, Archana Gupta, Himangshu Dey (Crafts) as the first teachers.

  • In 1967, the Senior Basic School has been recognized as High School (Class IX-X) and the name has been  changed to Kalitaladiar Raja Jagat Kishore High School.

  • Later in 2012, this High School has upgraded to a Higher Secondary School.

  • The school that had only be once a dream, consisting of 10-15 students in the confinement of ‘Taant Ghor’ has now become the true ‘second home’ that not just restricts text book education, but also encourages the overall development as a true human being for more than 1100 students,.
