History
In 1963, a group of enthusiastic people of Chuanpur Station Road and Swarnamoyee locality decided to set up a school. The school started its journey with Bijay Kumar Gupta as President , Subhash Basu as Secretary and Sanjit Kumar Roy Chowdhury as Headmaster. The other members of Managing Committee were Atin Roy, Sushil Kumar Dutta , Biren Basu, Brajen Roy, Sushil Kumar Dey , Narayan Chandra Biswas , Baladev Chowdhury , Madhusudan Sengupta , Ashu Dey , Sunil Kumar Baishya , Dinabandhu Sarkar , Goursankar Dasgupta and Biren Debnath.
- On 2nd January , 1964, the school started on the grund floor of a building near Chuanpur Railgate. Owner of this building was Narayan Chandra Biswas. The name given to the school was “ Chuanpur Vidyaniketan “. Runu Sengupta , Lokranjan Deb and Bipul Dasgupta were the teachers other than the H.M.
- Some days later, the school was shifted to a hut , owned by some Amulya Sengupta. The hut was let out for Rs. 25 a month. By efforts of Baladev Chowdhury and Sushil Dutta and by the help of the local club “Suhrid Sangha” , the school got ownership of a land near a pond.
- The school got recognition ( order No. 19701/g dated 22.09.1965 ) as a two – class junior high school in 1965 with the help of the then D.I. of schools ( S.E) , Murshidabsd ( wife of Veteran Communist leader Gopal Halder ) .The D.I gave Rs. 600/- from her discretionary fund to the school. But the recognition was for a girls school.
- Anticipating that the recognition will be as a girls school , in July 1964, the school restarted with Diptikana Dey as H.M and 50-60 girls as students.
- After sometime , the then District Magistrate of Murshidabad Biswarup Mukharjee issued a notice to the school to evacuate the land and accused the latter of illegal possession of land. But the land and land Revenue Minister ( United Front Govt ) Harekrisna konar instructed the D.M to withdraw the notice and by his effort the school got ownership of the land giving the govt a tax of Rs. 1 per annum only.
- In 1967 , the school got recognition of a four- class junior high school ( Order on 14488/g dated 26.05.1967 ) . In 1969 , a sum of Rs. 20000.00 was collected and with this fund more land was bought and a new school building , teachers room were built.
- For many subsequent years , the school was sending applications for recognition as high school . But the then Govt was giving a deaf ear to these pleas . At last , by the help and sincere efforts of Sudhin Sen , the then secretary of A.B.T.A., Murshidabad , the new left front govt gave the school the recognition ( Order No S/660, dated 04-10-1980 ) as X class high school w.e.f 1979.
- In 1999 , the school was upgraded to a higher secondary school ( Order No. DS (A) SD/1125/Recog/99 dated 27-07-1999 ) with philosophy , Sanskrit , Political Science , Geography , Economies and History as combination subjects.
- In 2008 , computer education was introduced in normal section . The school is continuing teaching this subject till date. In 2009 , the West Bengal State Govt. gave the school 10 computers , projector and monetary aid for infrastructural development of computer laboratory in ICT scheme. From this aid a well-equipped computer laboratory was built. From 2010 , after obtaining permission from W.B.C.H.S.E., the modern computer application was introduced in H.S section .
- This school was not built by donation from Rajas or Jamindars. The fund raised from local people helped it to sustain its existence. An influential trader wanted to give a generous amount of many if the school renames itself according to his wish. But the school authority refused. The name “Chuanpur Vidyaniketan Girls High School “ stands for the passion and dedication of the local people in establishing this school.
- The organizing teachers of this school were Pushpalekha singha, Pushpaila Roychowdhury , Gouri Bhattacharya, Ibha Dey, Ila Roychowdhury , Jayasree Ghosh etc.
- The Headmistresses of this school were Kajal Gupta, Parbati Roy and Bulu Kanjilal. The present H.M. is Silpi Sen.
