A school can do everything for proper advancement of a society and it is proved by Hikampur High School (H.S.) with 100% community involvement and attachment of the society where it belongs , located in Berhampore , Murshidabad , West Bengal . Hikampur , a remote village under Hatinagar Gram Panchayat of Berhampore Block with inhabitation of financially backward 100% Minority population who had been facing lack of proper education and culture over a long time .With a view to educating the villagers , a kind native named Abdus Salam donated 73 Kathas land to establish a school . Thus Hikampur Junior High School was established and recognized by the School Education Dept. , Govt. of W.B. on this land with only 25 students on 01/01/1968 for spreading light of education in this locality . Initially the school building had been constructed with 2 small classrooms and a toilet and only boys students had been admitted earlier . Gradually girls of this sector began to be educated and presently about 60% of the students are girls . As SSM has started to provide infrastructural facilities , new classrooms have been constructed ; but students crisis was there as the school was then Junior High School upto 2008 and deficit of infrastructural facilities as well as good faith of local people relating to their school were other hindrances . The negative picture was switched to a positive one , as the school was upgraded to High School in 2009 fulfilling the long time aspiration of the villagers . All round restless efforts under the leadership of the Headmaster to make the school an enjoyable , joyful and effective one have gained immense reliance of the inhabitants of the surrounding areas. Students strength has been increased rapidly , school building has been extended largely with the financial supports of the SSA , Murshidabad , separate toilets for boys and girls , library and laboratory have been formed in a good manner . The school has been upgraded to Higher Secondary in 2013 and Vocational Courses of VIII+ Level are running successfully . Now 1116 students are studying in this Institution , 100% students have passed M.P. for last 3 years and 85% in H.S. in spite of a massive crisis of teachers , i.e., only 13 permanent [ out of sanctioned 17 ] and 4 Para Teachers are there . 100% of the eligible students are the beneficiaries of all the Governmental assistance as utmost priority is offered to them in this area along with teaching-learning and qualitative upliftment of the students , though no clerical post has yet been sanctioned in H.S. Section . All the staff give their 100% for the betterment of this Institution . More than 4600 books are there in the well furnished school library and most of the students take the library facilities frequently , though no librarian post has yet been sanctioned and 2 assistant teachers supplement the gap. Beautiful paintings and gardens with full of flowers have made the school campus very attractive and increased aesthetic sense of the students . The Campus has effectively been used as TLM for the students by Health Awareness and Social Awareness .
Campaigning among students ; also 2-3 seminars with guardian and students are arranged on burning issues like Child Marriage and Child Trafficking, Snake-Dog Bite , Vector Borne Diseases like Dengue-Malaria-Chikungunya , Effective Agriculture etc. Eminent personalities are demonstrated in the walls with their contributions to the society and the country . In History Corner , Evolution of Civilization , 190 Years’ History of India’s Freedom Fight , Evolution of Man etc. are presented by pictures , writings and models . 1350 General Knowledge-based information are displayed in the Pillars which help the students to be prepared for various Recruitment Examinations . Career Counseling and Grooming Sessions are arranged by Experts in regular basis in Career Counseling Room . A big play ground with Slip and Rocking Cradle make the students energized by playing a lot at the leisure , also play materials for indoor games are provided to the students regularly ; regular Yoga classes are arranged for students by the Physical Instructor in “ Yogayan ’’ room . In every year , annual cultural competition and sports are arranged among students ; periodicals are published with paintings and writings of students ; attractive writings and paintings are placed in the school wall calendar “ Kisholoy” for a month; everyday 2 leading newspapers are displayed in the Newspaper reading board “ Sambadmonjori’’ ; health awareness related posters are placed in the Health Awareness Campaigning board “ Sochetona “ ; important and special events of each day are demonstrated in hand writing in our Daily Board “ Aajker Dinti “ ; each classroom is decorated with teaching-learning equipments ; CAL is running very successfully ; Computer Literacy Programme [ ICT ] has been launched ; drawing , dance and recitation training are provided to the selected students by expert trainers in the Cultural Activity Room “ Sur Lahori ’’, thus cultural activities have largely been extended in this area and students achieve successes in cultural competitions in every level . Though number of school-left students have remarkably been reduced to the minimum , regular observance is maintained to ensure the maximum students’ attendance . A very effective Child Cabinet with hard working students helps the administration by maintaining all round discipline , cleanliness , gardening , mid-day-meal serving and several other activities . Hikampur High School Child Cabinet has been awarded as the best Child Cabinet in Murshidabad in 2017 . Annual Cultural programme , observation of memorable days etc. are functioned in the big and well-decorated auditorium “ Vidyasagar Hall ’’ with “ Begum Rokeya Stage ” Students’ Welfare Fund with the contribution of students and teachers is running well . A complete Mid-day-meal set up with big Kitchen Garden , 18-point face-to-face Hand Washing System, MDM serving Counter , Purified Drinking Water facilities and a big and well-decorated Dining Hall with 200 takers at a time make the Mid-day-meal program a grand success in our institution . Bio fertilizers are prepared from the Biodegradable Solid Wastes and are used in gardens . Rain-water Harvesting System is functioning effectively through which rainwater is stored in a Big underground Water Reservoir from which water is used in gardens , cleaning school campus , fishery , etc. through effective pumping system . But the most attractive and unique one is its Art Museum “ Madhubon” , where all the districts
of our state are introduced with plenty of information , specially with Arts-Crafts-Cultures of its own . Original famous crafts of each district are placed in the gallery , variety of crafts and paintings of famous artists are ornamented . Students experience every state easily by making a visit in this gallery and teachers encourage them to make a trip there . In connection with “ Madhubon’’ , “ Srijani ’’ has been established where selected students ( basically who are academically poor ) are given Crafts’ training of “ Sholapith ’’ and “ Clay Work ’’ completely free of costs by renowned experts throughout the year .Also there are Vocational course of Tailoring for students . Hikampur High School , now a Govt. Sponsored School , has been awarded Nirmal Vidyalaya Award in 2014 by the SSM , Murshidabad and in 2016 , it has been awarded as one of the leading schools in our district by the Dept. of Education , Murshidabad . This institution has been awarded “ Sishumitra Vidyalaya Puraskar ,2017 ’’ by the Department of Education , Govt. of West Bengal . Now Hikampur High School has become an ideal school and its activities have been widely spread out by leading newspapers and Television Channels .
This institution has been awarded prestigious “ Certificate of Appreciation ” consecutively in 2018 and 2019 by the Department of Education , Govt. of West Bengal for it’s excellence in beautification ,child-friendly environment and in the context of all-round education to the students . .
We are trying to make our school so attractive and informative that our students can get stress-free , joyful and all-round learning from their most lovable Hikampur High School .
