Welcome to Gorabazar Iswar Chandra Institution

Sri Biharilal Chakrabarty, a keen educationist residing at Berhampore (Murshidabad , W.B.) had a dream to establish a school with a view to spreading light of education and his dream came true when he founded an institution with unflagging interest on 21st July, 1916 in the name of his father Iswar Chandra Chakrabarty at 36, Exiibition Road, Berhampore in the district of Murshidabad, W.B. Now the school is known as Iswar Chandra Institution, a Bengali medium Boys’ School. The school made it’s legendary progress with a few students and a band of committed teachers without a single interruption giving a focus in the spheres of education, cultural activities and especially games and sports. The school has been playing a vital and significant role in the social and intellectual history of post independent Berhampore. The students of this school bagged Dutta Fodkar Trophy in 1996 and Coca Cola Trophy in the same year. The school has gradually flourished having a strength with many more students and teachers in new attached buildings. Having been affiliated to W.B.B.S.E. , the school sent out its first batch for the school final exam in 1920. Afterwards it had been upgraded to the higher secondary level in 1978. Now Gorabazar I.C.I. runs a large family comprising 1700 students, 45 teachers and 8 non-teaching staff. It is a matter of great joy and success that the bondage among the teachers, guardians and students belonging to different religions study in this school from class V to X under W.B.B.S.E. And thereafter a majority of them continue their study in the H.S. level under the W.B. council. The institution pays equal attention to co curricular activities. To be a centre of excellent quality of education in keeping with the rich heritage of India, the institution stresses on simultaneous development of body, mind and spirit and endeavour’s to create responsible and innovative global citizen who are committed and promising to keep the wheels of development of India moving. It’s known to all that a school is a temple of education for every student. Keeping it in mind I can feel that all the teachers, staff, the members of the managing committee are pulling in the same direction to set up a healthy atmosphere in our school premises. Gradually I am getting good feedback from our affectionate students in both education and co curricular activities, minimizing the number of truants.
