The edifice called Dumkal Balika Vidyapith constructed through ages stands as a lighthouse emitting wisdom,knowlege and service to girls.Education is the bedrock of development and the spine of a society,but schools are a must to execute the process.The benevolence and generosity of able minded people always paves the way to ease all problems ,smoothening every coarse and rugged circumstances.To foster education here too the contribution of few liberal minded people stands as an exemplary.Mr. Sishir kr Das was one such luminous personality whose generosity for contributing a sprawling area for the foundation of the institution will never be effaced.
It was in 1965, that the foundation stone was laid .A dream fabricated by many finally reached its acme.Detrimental poverty,socio economic differences and low parental involvement posed many hurdles to the upsurge of education then,but gradually the sapling sprung with its verdant foliage and started blooming with its promising hue .Girls,now had a choice.They ,slowly started to emerge from their precincts.It was in the same year, that Mrs. Annapurna Bhattacharyya,the first Headmistress ,alongwith Secretary Mr.Sishir kr. Das and President Mr. Dilip kr. Sanyal stepped into the remarkable journey to actively undertake the responsibility of administering the school.
The school building ,at the very onset was quite small in its dimensions.Some 6 rooms with approximately 260 students and few teachers were all that made it.Initially (1965) it got its first recognition as a Junior High School.In 1980,the School got upgraded as a Class X high school.In the year 1993,HM Mrs.Alia Begum took up the baton and with her initiative the school finally got recognized for imparting Higher Secondary Education in general stream in 1995.
The school started burgeoning .Education started to beacon girls from all sections to join the saga called 'literacy'.Teachers keep bolstering the relationship between books and students.With countless efforts ,the school is now equipped with 36 rooms including classroom,auditorium,computer room ,staff room,office room , two audio visual room for smart classes,a library with tasteful collections,a dining room,an Open Dias and kitchen. The Herculean task of increasing the dimensions of the school became possible with Govt . grants and aids .It's now a three storied one exuding it's aroma called education.The vast stretch of greenery is arrayed with fenced segments where many hebs and shrubs carelessly bloom without worries.To have a glimpse of it on a rainy afternoon is just breathtaking.Till the year 2019 girls had to opt for Arts stream after passing out their Secondary Examinations,but the year 2020 has brought forth a Pandora's Box for girls who often had to seek admission in some other schools for selection of variegated subjects .Yes,this year onwards the students can opt for Science stream and Geography is a new subject in the sphere.In this connection a laboratory has also been constructed to activate the mission .

Girls in Maroon and white now beautify the classrooms. Hardworking teachers engage themselves to instill Optimum self confidence in them. In a perfect blend of education and culture the pupils are made to learn from their failures and never give up ambitions .Each year girls belonging to weaker economic sections get Kanyashree forms and are monetarily benefitted with the aid. We are fortunate to have "Kanyashree Warriors" who have often taken initiatives to put an end to social maladies .As for mid day meal ,girls from class 5 to 8 are given adequate nutritious diet make them physically stronger. The scheme named Sabuj Sathi enrolls every eligible girl of class 9 to have a bicycle to take a ride from their remote corners to school. These days girls of Domkal Balika Vidyapith successfully qualify their Board examinations in Secondary as well as Higher Secondary levels. Impediments can no longer make them victims of deprivation. Other than academics, students also participate in extra curricular activities . Students are seen to actively involve themselves in Science Talent Search Competition conducted by West Bengal Vigyan Manch each year and they come through with flying colours .Other than that science exhibition also attracts our students and they excel here too. Often in many Inter School events like painting ,singing ,re citation or dancing DBV girls are a reason to our pride. Be it a cleanliness drive or a rally for a cause the girls along with teaching and non teaching staff march ahead to accomplish it. There is yet another Event in which the girls are deligent enough to emerge victorious and Youth Parliament is the one . August 2017 and September 2019 made our girls toppers of the contest in block level. It was a laudable attainment, thus glorifying there Alma Mater. Trophies of Excellence add 'feather in the cap'
It still has miles to go and hope that the Sun will shine with its full vigour to spout every positive hope even if embedded in the crust. Hope that the quest of learning never cease.
