Nandapur primary school was established in 1946 at a village named Nandapur, under Alunda GP of Birbhum district.
The school, as well as the area, has an interesting history. As per the words of the veteran persons of the village, in the pre-independence era, assuming in between 1943-44, the school was primarily set up unofficially by some erudite and enthusiastic persons at a little farther of the present location of the school. It was at Brahman para of Nandapur village, beside the Adi Sarbamangala Temple. It was a mud-house with a thatched roof having a very little facility. It took the form of a "Toll" on private enterprise in mid-1943.
At that time, there was no formal system to provide education in neighbouring seven-eight villages including Nandapur, Shaktipur, Par Shimuliya, Panch Pakuria, Chhota Alunda, Bara Alunda, Itagaria, Salpa etc. In between Suri- Sainthia road, there were only two primary schools, one was Kunuri Primary school of Mathpalsa Anchal and another was Durgapur Shri Shri Ramakrishna Vidyapith of Tilpara Anchal. For that reason, a few generous, wise people of those villages came forward to establish the Tol for the sake of their children's education.
Minimum fees were charged from the students. The Pundits of the Tol were Shri Gopal Karmakar (Nandapur), Shri Kuroram Garai ( Bara Alunda ), Shri Amulya Dutta ( Bara Alunda) and Shri Gangadhar Chatterjee (Shaktipur).
Gradually the number of students grows up and there was an urgent need for larger space to carry on the journey. At that time, a gentleman named Mr. Khirod Prasad Mistri got ownership of some land named "Sendanga" through settlement from Zamindar Mr. Madan Mohan Trivedi. He donated 17 shatak of the land for the sake of people and the noble mission of education to the then British Government. It was in the year 1945 (probably in June).
After that, on 01.01.1946 the school got Govt Affiliation as Nandapur Primary School. As per the record, the first Head Teacher was Mr Bhabadeb Chatterjee and the first student admitted was Shri Nafar Chandra Das.
The school had many ups and downs but it excelled day by day in all sphere. The large concrete building now is like a sign of victory, a silent observer of mighty ongoing mission. There were so many students from this school who could accomplish valuable places in society. For example, Mr.Sunil Baran Saha was a designer Engineer of DVC, Mr. Shyam Sundar Saha was the manager of Mayurakshi Gramin Bank etc.
This institution with a glorious heritage and a hoary past is holding its head high in the academic world in this part of Birbhum, West Bengal and inculcating invaluable light of Knowledge.
