Adjacent to Bakreswar Dham, one of the most sacred sites of Satipits of Birbhum, stands the two-storeyed building of Tantipara Nabakishore Vidyaniketan, a Govt. sponsored institution in the midst of verdurous ambience beside the Suri-Bakreswar Road. There being no institution for higher studies after ME School (class VI) at the surroundings of Rajnagar and Tantipara, a number of educationists and cultural activists came forward with robust enthusiasm during the stormy days of the Pre-Independence. As a result of their noble enterprise, Tantipara Nabakishore Vidyaniketan in the form of a thatched structure started its journey on the 7th January, 1939 in the premises of the ME School. Among those noble personalities Motilal Dey, the then village post-master, Mihirlal Chottopadhaya, a freedom fighter of repute, and Sachchidananda Goswami are major figures. Later the local people of Tantipara, Gohaliara, Bakreswar, Palshbon, Parasia etc. joined hand in hand in 1942 not only to cope against the dire days of penury of the institution, but also to raise it to the status of a high school. In 1944, the University of Calcutta approved it as a higher English school and it came under the control of the W. B. B. S. E. in 1948. According to the sources available, the dilapidated structure was hit worst by a ‘Kalbaishakhi’ in 1947. At that critical situation, Nabakishore Dutta, a village resident, emerged as an apostle who contributed to the renovation of the aforesaid structure as well as to the construction of a residential hostel. And hence the school is being named after him. In 1962, the institution was shifted to its present location and raised to the Higher Secondary level in 1978. At present it is a boys’ school in secondary level, but co-ed in higher secondary consisting of Humanities, Science and Commerce streams with well equipped laboratories and partial e-gadget facilities. Not gorgeous glamour or magnificent building, but a congenial teacher-taught relationship constitutes the cardinal core of the institution. All the dedicated staff, hon’ble members of the M.C. (both the present and the former), and the responsible guardians are committed to maintain the sagacity of this seat of learning, culture, games and sports and other co-curricular activities meant for the holistic development of the future builders of the nation. Cleanliness, social awareness, inculcation of moral values, creation of learner friendly atmosphere are the focal concerns here. Ever since the time of its inception in 1939, the institution has remained a symbol of trust, pride and co-operation of the locality through decades. But the height of excellence it reaches is not an overnight achievement. The institution has the honour of participating in State Level Football Competition, State Level Science Model Exhibition (stood first), and numerous District Level activities and programmes with outstanding performances. A special component of the institution corresponds to the regular featuring in the cultural consensus of the entire district. The school is proud of producing potential galaxies illuminating in various public as well as private sectors, organisations and research centres in India and abroad.
