History

Our school 'Bishnupur Rasamanjari High School' has stepped into its centenary on 17th January, 2017. This institution, was inaugurated about 103 years  ago in the year 1918 in British India by the earnest endeavour of a pious lady Rasamanjari Devi, has, in course of time, been flourished and ramified into a major centre in the educational spectrum of this district. The heritage building of the school is unique and looks ‘E’-shaped from the sky, a symbol of British architecture. The name of the school initially was 'Bishnupur Rasamanjari High English School' under the jurisdiction of the University of Calcutta.

The Institution had an immense contribution in the freedom movement of India against the British Rule. Estimable Shree Suresh Chandra Sarkar, the then Headmaster, was an intense patron of that freedom movement. His wife frequently gave shelter to the freedom fighters in her kitchen secretly. Many freedom-aspiring youths and students were influenced by him. They took part in both violent and non-violent freedom movement. The lion-hearted students of this Institution also took part in Gandhiji's "Quit India Movement" in 1942. Some of them sacrificed their lives and some were put behind bars. At last India became free on August 15, 1947.

Name of the first HM is Kanailal Barat. Name of the first secretary is Labanya Gopal Mondal. 13 students sat for the first matriculation exam from this school in the year 1920. One of them was Hemgopal Das who passed the examination in first division. The school magazine was published for the first time in the year 1955 under the HMship of Suresh Chandra Sarkar. It is known from the writing of an ex-student that 22 students sat for the first HS exam and all were promoted successfully.

From January 1918 the school was initially recognized by the Calcutta University as a X-class high school vide Calcutta Gazette. It was recognized as XI-class (science stream) H.S. school by the WBBSE w.e.f. 01.03.1961. The school was upgraded to XII-class H.S. school (+2 level) w.e.f. 01.07.1976 by the WBCHSE. The school came under Grant-in-Aid Scheme from 01.01.1948. The school came under Salary Deficit Scheme from 01.05.1972.

The Managing Committee of the school was converted to a Govt. Sponsored one in 2015, which took charge on 07/05/2015. With the cordial contribution of the devoted teachers, this institution has continuously been yielding brilliant results both in Madhyamik and H.S. exams for decades.
