India gained independence in 1947 and twocountries -India and Pakistan had been carved out of undivided India-of which West Pakistan is now known as Pakistan and East Pakistan has been denominated as Bangladesh.After partition of the country the Hindus,in regular succesion of different incidents,were forced to leave in companions their ancestral homestead in East Pakistan,now Bangladesh and started streaming in to India.This resulted in a massive influx of the uprooted people to settle down at Payradanga in Nadia in West Bengal.Among those homeless refugees a significant portion happened to find a place to lay their heads in having a goverment grant and the rest of them made a concerted effort by working together for rehabilitation of themselves.
