History

The school building was donated by Monomohun Ghose, a famous barrister and good friend of Dr. K D Ghose, father of Sri Aurobindo. The main school building built with red bricks with a tinge of Anglo-Indian architecture is itself a place of visit in the city of Krishnanagar. The school is more than 170 years old,[1] established in 1846 in KrishnanagarNadia. The first principal of the school was David Lester Richardson, who later served as the principle of Presidency College, Kolkata. The school started with three European and ten Indian teachers which included the likes of Ramtanu Lahiri and Madan Mohan Tarkalankar. Beni Madhab Das, teacher of Subhash Chandra Bose at Ravenshaw Collegiate School also taught here. The school has produced several rank holders. Many legendary teachers served the school.Dr Jaydeep Sarangi, Internationally acclaimed critic ,author and Principal of New Alipore College served here as Asst. Master in English in late 1990s.

In 1846, when this institution was established, it was the time of “Renaissance”, so the vision, culture, philosophy of renaissance age was deeply infiltrated into the foundation of this institution. If we look back to the academic performance or the overall growth of this institution, it can be comprehended that it’s still carrying the flag of premiership.

I feel myself extremely lucky as well as proud to be the successor of so many eminent personalities who served this institution as Assistant Head master of the institution or teachers, who were mentors rather than teachers.
