Holy Family Girls High School (H.S) was started in 1860 by a group of Catholic Missionaries belonging to the Society of Sisters of Charity of Sts. Bartolomea Capitanio and Vincenza Gerosa. The school was started in a thatched hut near Krishnagar Cathedral Church with a purpose of fulfilling the vision of its Foundress, St Bartolomea Capitanio who held the ‘Youth dear to her heart.’ Keeping in view her vision – ‘the education of youth’ specially the girls in moral danger, the missionaries committed themselves to the service of the young girls by imparting education to the girls coming from distant villages of the district, Govt. registered orphans and girls from the locality, following the example of our Lord and Master Jesus Christ.
The School got its first recognition on 11.12.1942 as a Junior High School under the name of R.C Girls School. Due to the lack of space and for better administration, the school building was shifted to the present site i.e opposite to Krishnagar Stadium and took the name Holy Family Girls’ High School. In 1960 the school was raised to Class X under the salary deficit scheme by the Govt. of West Bengal. In the year 2000 the school was upgraded to Higher Secondary with general streams of Science and Arts. The school caters to 1330 students from classes V to XII with the help of almost 40 qualified and dedicated teaching and non teaching staff.
