The school was established in the year 1948 as Junior High M.E. school with the help of some local eminent persons interested in education. School was recognized by Calcutta University in 1949 as Secondary school. It was upgraded as XI class school (HS) in the year 1959. Then it was recognized as Higher Secondary school (10+2) in the year 1974 as Birnagar Higher Secondary School. In the year 1976 new Vocational stream was granted by WBCHSE. In West Bengal from 1990-1998 students of this institution stood 1st in Vocational Stream. From 1951-2013 it was Govt. Aided institution. In 2014 it was converted into Govt. Sponsored institution. Status of the school is now a Higher Secondary school with General (Science, Humanities, Commerce) & Vocational (Agriculture) streams.
