Late Shri Heramba Chandra Bhattacharya and his wife Late Shrimati Kanak Prava Bhattacharya desired to create a board of trustee in the memory of his father Late Mahesh Chandra Bhattacharya and accordingly the Mahesh Bhattacharya memorial trust was created. They had decided to establish an ideal educational institution on a piece of land, in Chandrapur, Duttapukur. By meeting the costs of constructions out of his funds and spent a considerable amount for the said purpose and established an educational institution thereon in 1962, known as Duttapukur Mahesh Vidyapith Free Primary School.
Later a higher secondary section had been established beside the Primary section.
