History

Location: - Nahata High School (H.S.), P.O. Nahata, Dist. North 24 Parganas, Pin 743290 is a remote reputed institution in rural Bengal. It started on 2nd January, 1949. This School was established by the so-called the then “Educational Reformers” of this area. At first, it was situated at “Beltala” of Nahata Uttar Bazar, Satashi More, (which is now Nahata F. P. School and Police Camp.) But in 1971-72, Nahata High School was shifted by the bank of the river named Yamuna .It stays (Latitude) 220 58.74/ minute North and (Longitude) 88041.94/ minute south. It is about 8 km. from Chandpara Rly. Station, Auto – Rickshaw is available to reach our School. From Bongaon the school is about 18 Km. by Bus or Auto-Rickshaw.

Students: - We have almost 1700 (One thousand seven hundred students) who come from the neighbouring areas as well as distant regions. Almost all the students come from poor S.C. /S.T. & O.B.C. Communities, because Nahata is an agricultural area, here the people depend on agriculture, Drought and Flood are always their companion. Many landless farmers live from hand to mouth here. So, the children of these families have to always be careful with their studies. . There are four departments in our School, General, Vocational, Pilot Project under NSQF and Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya. The total number of teaching & non- teaching staff of these streams is 48 at present.

Computer facilities: - Computers are available in our School. From the classes V to X Computer training is compulsory for the students, because, in the age of information & technology, computer literacy program is a must. In our school the students may get training in computer at a nominal fee of only Rs. 420/- per year. Besides, the subjects COMS & COMA are available for the students of class XI & XII.

Hostel: - There are two-storied Buildings of our school-Hostel (S.C.) by the bank of our own pond. Here, 40 beds are accommodated for the students.

Play ground:-There is a playground inside our School. This Play-ground is the only Play-ground in this area. It is called the heartthrob of Nahata. Men and Women exercise in the morning & evening. The young boys and girls daily come to practise their games & sports in this playground. Every year many student- competitors become successful in getting their jobs practising from this play – ground.

School Library:-Our School library was established in the year1976 with a volume of 500 books. That library was managed by the students till the first librarian Late Purnendu Chatterjee was appointed. On 20th Feb. 2000, the ex-Teacher Sri Anil Kumar Biswas and his family donated Rs. 50,000/ and the library was re-christened as “Abinash Chandra Smriti Pathagar’. Now the library has over 50,000 volumes of books. The students, teaching and non-teaching staff may read many kinds of books.

Auditorium: - Our School has an ideal auditorium which is about 3000 sq. ft. in area. It is the largest and most aesthetic auditorium on behalf of an Institution in the Bongaon subdivision.

Park: - A suitable Park named “Nahata High School Shishu Udyan’ has been built under “Aamar Gram, Aamar Bagan” Project (with the help of Bongaon Panchayet Samity & Chowberia-II Gram Panchayet) in front of our school which is very aesthetic and pretty. “Sahid Bedi” & Rabindra statue are there in it. The statue of Late Satyendra Chandra Naha, one of the founder headmasters of the school has recently been built to adorn the park.

School canteen: - A Canteen has started from 2010. The teachers and students may collect their tea-biscuits and tiffin from that canteen.

Toilets: - There are sufficient toilets are in every floor of the buildings and some toilets are situated by the sides of the boundary wall.

Drinking water: - There is an arsenic-free tube-well in our school. There is also adequate provision for supply of additional arsenic-free purified drinking water by ATM.

Attendance: - As per Board/council norms, if a student’s attendance in the classes is less than 75%, he will not be allowed to sit for the exam. If he fails to attend the classes for medical reason, he must have to apply to the Headmaster along with medical certificates.

Conducts & Dresses: - Our school’s dresses are blue-white check (small) shirt and Navy blue pant. No student is allowed to come to school without school-uniform and mobile phone is strictly prohibited for the students.

Co-curricular activities;-Our school organizes Cultural Programmes and various competitions, Games & Sports, Teachers’ Day, Nabin Baran, Saraswati Puja, Inter school Football & Cricket Matches, Kho-Kho, Kavadi, Excursion etc. We have won a large number of medals (in the various tournaments and events) which have been shining in the almirah of Headmaster’s room.

Special days for observation:- The Students along with all the staff observe the Independence Day, Teachers’ day, 23rd January (Netaji’s Birth Day) 26th January (Republic day), 25th Baishakh (Rabindra Birthday Anniversary) and 1st July (Dr. B. C. Roy’s Birth and Death Anniversary).

Magazines: - Our school publishes a magazine (Sarathi) on regular intervals but wall-magazine is yet to be published.

Exhibition on teaching Models: - Teacher’s council organizes an exhibition on teaching Models. In this exhibition all the students of our school participate with their improvised teaching aids. From one of these, a Model named “Akash Pradarshani” which was improvised by the asstt. teacher, Sri Phanindranath Biswas has been exhibiting all over West Bengal. Many prizes have been won by this Model “Akash Pradarshani”. In the year 2000, we got the best exhibitory –prize with five National scholarships for students, Rs. 6000/ from ‘Eastern India Science Fair”

Cultural competitions & prize distribution: - Every year our School organizes cultural competitions like Recitation, Music, Shruti Natak, Quiz, Debate, Extempore, Drama, Dance etc. Prize distribution ceremony is also organized on the day of annual sports. Many kinds of prizes have been running like Late Yogendranath Sarkar memorial prize, Satyendranath Naha memorial prize, Gopal Chandra Biswas memorial prize, Rajendranath Chaki Prize, Nakuleswar Shankhari memorial prize, Sudhir Ranjan Mondal memorial prize, Prodyot Sen memorial prize and special inspiring award Rs. 2000/ by our two ex-students Arindam Mitra and Bipul Biswas each for the scholar students of class XI and XII Science stream. .
