History

Sun rises here daily and sets but before 72 years there was darkness. Yes, darkness of illiteracy. Barrackpur was then a remote village. A kind hearted person named Mr. Lalmahan Ghosh felt the need of education for the children of the village and gave land to build a school. Finally Barrackpur G.S.F.P School was set up in 1949. At first it had a tin shed. Later buildings were constructed by the Government. Mr. Sukumar Mukherjee was the first Head Teacher. He was accompanied by Mr. Nanigopal Adhikary, Mr. Ajit Mukherjee, Mrs. Bela Roy and Mr. Suryababu. The school faced the devastating flood of 2000. For over seventy years this school has been serving as a beacon light for education to the locality
