Madhyamgram Girls' High School was founded on 2nd January, 1951. As there was no high school at Madhyamgram at that time, persons interested in education considered it of vital importance to set up high schools for spreading education among girls and boys. Under the guidance of Peace and Welfare Committee, the founder secretary Nripendranath Mitra established the school with the help of some local benevolent enthusiasts like Sudhirchandra Roychowdhury, Jitendranath Sarkar, Chandrakanta Bandyopadhyay and others. At first the school had no premises of its own. Classes started with 45 students as a junior school in the premises of Madhyamgram Boys' School, which was a thatched building constructed by the united effort of the displaced local community under great hardship. Classes were held in the morning shift. At that time heads of the institution, Himani Sen, Sudha Bhadra and Aloka Pal alongwith the teaching and non- teaching staff with great sincerity, honesty and untiring effort raised an undistinguished school with a lump sum grant to a position of great respectability. The school was shifted to its own building in January, 1959. A plot of land was acquired for this purpose with the help of West Bengal Refugee Rehabilitation Department and twelve kutcha rooms were built. Gradually the school got its permanent building with government grant. In 1957 it was recognised as a high school. In 1962 it was raised to the level of a higher secondary school and in 1964 science stream was introduced. In 1976 which was also the silver jubilee year the school got permission to start classes in the eleventh grade for continuation of studies after Board examination under the new system. With the introduction of the commerce stream in 1997, it attained the status of a Multipurpose Higher secondary school. It has also achieved distinction in the fields of sports and cultural activities.
