During a Municipal assembly held on the 14th of December, 1949, Sri RashbehariSastri, the contemporary Chairman of Kanchrapara Municipality proposed to set up a school to meet the educational demand of a locality with increasing population. After sanctioning the stated proposal the process of construction began on a plot of land previously used for dumping waste. With the help of the local people and with the sincere effort of Sri Sastri, Kanchrapara Municipal Polytechnic High School (H.S, Co-Ed) was set up on the 26th of January, 1950. At that time Sri Sastri sought to build an institution which would support both the academic and vocational purposes of the learners. Pupils were being trained in the areas like carpentry, tailoring and so on. For this reason, the term ‘Polytechnic’ was attached with the title of the institution. However, gradually the vocational wing discontinued and at present the school stands only for a premier institute for pursuing studies from class V to X (WBBSE) and class XI AND XII (WBCHSE).
The first Headmaster of the institution was Sri Suren Chandra Das. Eminent efforts were also made by the subsequent Headmasters like Sri Joybhusan Roy, Bhabaranjan Chakravorty, Sri Krishna Gopal Pramanik etc. At present the head of the institution is Smt Jyotsna Samanta.
Slowly and steadily the institution accumulated a reputation for nurturing poor but meritorious students. With the passing of seventy long years numerous students have passed and become successful in their lives. Some noteworthy among them are eminent writer and Nazrul Research Scholar Sri Bandhan Sengupta, Doctor and the Ex- member of Parliament Sri Sucharu Halder, Sri Kajal sur and Film Director Sri Raj Chakraborty.
The school is proud to have an exuberant library that continuously support the students like a loyal friend. The learners can enrich themselves with all sorts of books like reference texts, travelogues, Collections of poetry and even fictional works.
The laboratories of the school provide consistent help for studying Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography and Computer Science. Through a happy combination of learning and practising the students could engage in a joyous participation in the learning process.
