On the east side of Naihati, in Negelnagar, there wasn't any type of Girls' High School and the girls of the area had to travel all the way to the otherside of Railway lines, around Bhatpara, in order to study. So the residents of the area decided to start Girls' school in Negelnagar. Sri Nani Gopal Sarkar, Sri Kamalesh Chowdhury, Sri Sushil Kr. Dey, Sri Ranajit Ch. Ghosh, Sri Aurobinda Nandi, Sri Pronay Paul, Sri Nirmal Guha, Sri Sumanta Das and many more people interested in education, especially for girls, took the charge of establishing the school. Most of the founding members were high ranking Railway Officials.
Initially it was decided that classes would be held in the same building of Vivekananda Prathamik Vidyalaya( Primary School). The founders decided to name the school related to Swami Vivekananda and hence named it Negelnagar Bhagini Nivedita Balika Vidyapeeth. Vivekananda Prathamik Vidyalaya was a day school, so classes for the new Girls' school were to held in the morning.
However, the organization required an initial fund for the school. The founders then three(3) 'Jatra's (popular form of Bengali Theatre/Folk Theatre) for fund raising. The school was inaugurated on 1st January, 1967 and affiliated from the next dar, the 2nd January, 1967 and started taking classes with four teachers --- Smt. Lila Rani Kar, Smt. Mira Dey, Smt.Chhaya Chowdhury (Interim Headmistress) and Smt. Bani Mallick (Teacher cum Clerk). In September, 1967, Smt. Biva Banerjee joined the institution. After few months, D. I. Office Officials conducted an inspection and Smt. Aruna Halder joined as Headmistress of the school. The school was Affiliated by the State Govt. upto eighth Standard (4-class Junior High).
The headmistress Smt. Aruna Halder resigned and Smt. Jayanti Mukherjee, A.T. became the Headmistress. The School Managing Committee, under the leadership of the new Headmistress and with help from the teaching as well as non-teaching staff ,raised funds for construction of a new school building. Thus the school had its own building. At the sametime, she also tried to upgrade the school upto class-X and to get affiliaed by the WBBSE. The school got affiliation upto class-X in 1971 and the first batch of madhyamik Pariksha(S.E.) was appeared in 1972.
Unfortunately, the Negelnagar area witnessed some major law and order problems, becoming very difficult for female students to continue their studies. The number of students also gradually decreased. Then the school Managing Committee decided to shift the school to a different location (comperatively safer area). Smt. Rina Roy, Headmistress and founder of Phanibhusan Balika Vidyalaya in Kanthalpara, furthered her help to the School Committee in that crucial time. Thus the classes of Negelnagar Bhagini Nivedita Balika Vidyapeeth has started in the building of Phanibhusan Balika Vidyalaya in the morning session in 1981. After shifting, the name of the school changed into Kanthalpara Bhagini Nivedita Balika Vidyapeeth and the WBBSE accorded permission in this regard. Now the school has its own three-storeyed building in the same premises. Smt. Jayanti Mukherjee retired from her duty of Headmistress in 2007 and Smt, Jyotsna Sarkar was appointed as Headmistress according to the recommendation of West Bengal School Service Commission, w. e. f. 15.09.2009.
After taking charge, the present Headmistress had to face many problems related to students as well as the staff matter. She had tried her level best to solve and regularise the problems and is continuing her efforts for the smooth running and development of the school. The socio-economic condition of most of our students is very backward. Despite this, our students try their level best to strive towards betterment. In this regard, the name of our ex-student Debashree Ghosh must be mentioned here, who, after receiving the INSPIRE AWARD from Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, performed extraordinarily not only in the District Level Science Exhibition but also in the State Level. Further she also was one of the few students who got selected for the National Level Science Exhibition.
