
Gurdah Rishi Aurobinda Vidyaniketan,a luminous higher secondary school of greater Shyamnagar under Barrackpore subdivision in North 24 parganas was founded on 31.01.1964 in Gurdah-2, govt.sponsored scheme.The founders were late Nihar Basu(Ex-minister,WB),late Ananta Chakraborty, late Hariprasanna Chakraborty,late Basanta Paul, late Dhirendranath Das, late Manilal Das, late Prankrishna Samadder, late Dr.Binoy Paul Roy, late Umapada Chatterjee.They were education loving social workers.Most of them belonged to local refugee population.It was as a result of the deep concern, aspirations,and sincere efforts of them and wishes of the settled refugees to see their presence and would be young generations enlightened with education.This institution was born along with its twin Shyamnagar Gurdah Rishi Aurobinda Balika vidyalaya.Initially a Junior High,it was soon upgraded to class xi(OLD HS). Later on with the abolition of old HS system,it was settled to Madhyamik School.In course of necessity,it was again upgraded to HS status in 1998 ,which it still enjoys.The school serves the purpose of not only about 4000 refugee families but also about 6000 non-refugee families at the adjoining villages.The institution is ever flourishing with its satisfactory results in the final exams.
