BARRACKPORE A. B. MODEL HIGH SCHOOL(H.S.) IN THE LIGHT OF HISTORY
Barrackpore A.B.Model High School (H.S.) is one of the premier Academic Institutions for Boys under Barrackpore Municipality, P.O.-Talpukur,North 24 Parganas ,West Bengal. It has been imparting education through vernacular medium since its inception. Dr. Prafulla Kumar Dasgupta,the great educationist and humanist founded the institution on 3rd. April,1939 . He was assisted by Sri Tarini Charan Ghosh, Sri Tulsi Charan Paul, Sri Hemanta Kumar Mukhopadhyay and other fellow members. The school started its journey from a rented house at Middle Road, Anandapuri. Initially it was Barrackpore Model School. Later it became Barrackpore A. B. Model High School and shifted to its present address to meet the space scarcity for students. Sri Kiran Sankar Dasgupta, the 2nd. brother of Prafulla Kumar Dasgupta donated Rupees ten thousand with the condition of naming the school in memory of their parents Late Ambika and Bimala Dasgupta. Accordingly the nomenclature of the school has been changed from Barrackpore Model School to Barrackpore A. B. Model School. Dr. Prafulla Kumar Dasgupta was the founder and first Headmaster of the school. It got the affiliation from The University of Calcutta in the year 1942. Dr.Prafulla Kumar Dasgupta died untimely on 19th July in1956 but the journey did not stop. The Barrackpore A. B. Model School also came under The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education in course of time. In the beginning the aims and objective was to spread education among the students coming from poor and down trodden families in the locality. Presently it has become a centre of knowledge for all having Science, Humanities and Commerce streams in H.S. Section. Our teaching faculty provide their services through honesty & dedication. The method of teaching is digitized with the motto of all round development of the pupil .Nevertheless we have been honoured through Nirmal Vidyalaya Puraskar by Disrict Authority oh Noth 24 parganas in 2017. Presently it is a Govt. Sponsored 10+2 complete academic institution run by new SMC.Today the dream of our founder father has become true as the institution has earned enough confidence of the people in the locality.
