
In the pre independence era the oldest cantonment area has limited girls school. There were no high school for girls. Hence Barrackpore cantonment girls high school was established by some local enthusiasgs, freedom fighters. It was started with only twenty students at 54, 55 Murgi Mahalin the residence of Late Bholanath Nandy and Late Promod Chandra Das. In 1947 the school was shifted to the Anjuman Library and continued until the present building at 115 Kunjra Mahal was constructed with the present effort of local people. It was affiliated with University of Calcutta in pre independence era and in 1952 from West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and in 1999 from the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. The school has successfully served its purpose of women education, hence marching towards women empowerment. The school is the windows of Educational world to many students who come of lower strata of society. The school organises the annual sports meet every year and observe Bhasha Dibosh, Barsha mangal, Rabindra Najarul Jayanti, Vidyasagar's Birthday and so on with cultural activities. The national flag is hoisted onth Republic Day and Independence Day and Netaji's Birthday. The school believes in complete mental, intellectual and academic growth of little girls into responsible Indian citizens. The authority both teaching and non teaching staffs offer their best to reach this goal.
