India achieved independence from British in 1947 and the country was divided through a painful partition. Lakhs and lakhs of people lost their home and came to West Bengal. Many of this homeless people took shelter in Agarpara and soon a colony developed. Soon they realize the need to educate their children. Some local people who were fond of education like Lt. Labanya bhusan Ghosh Dostider, Lt. Abani Mukherjee, Lt. Harendra nath Chatterjee came forward and in 1950 Ushumpur Adarsha Uchcha Vidyalaya was esltablished. Initially the school did not have any building so class were taken in a local club 'Pragati Sangha'. After some months local Ghosh family donated land for school building.
With the help of local people two rooms are constructed. Initially there were few students but when the number of students started increasing students were taught in two shifts. Girls attended morning sessions while boys came in the afternoon. Gradually the school developed with government help. Our school got recognition in 1957. Within a few years the student strength increased a lot and separate buildings were built for boys and girls. In 1986 with Government and local help Ushumpur Adarsha Uchcha Vidyalaya For Girls' established. At that moment the Headmistress was Mrs. Bharati Sen, whose contribution towards developing the school and spreading education is unforgetable. Her untimely demise gave the responsibility of to the school to Smt. Bakul Das. After Smt. Das's retirement came Smt. Papri Dasgupta who performed her duties very soomthly and sincerly for 23 years. During her era in 1999 the school was promoted from a secondary school to a higher secondary school.
After 4 years of her retirement Smt. Srabanti Das has joined as the headmistress, who is also a former student of our school. It is indeed a great achievement for us. Between this time span our Teacher-in-charge Smt. Dalia Chattopadhaya had performed all the essentials for successful running of the school.
