School History:
The root of our school, BARANAGAR RAMESWAR GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL,stands on the rock-solid base of 185 years of glory and pride since 1835.
It is known to us that, at the very beginning, it starts walk as Primary School at cossipore, (BADAM GACHHER MAATH) established by Sri Dinobondhu Dey, a local person, interested in education. Then due to lack of space it shifted to an old, decaying house at the crossing of Kuthighat Road and Atul Krishna Banarjee street, Baraganar. At first it was "Middle Vernacular" , then it become a "Middle English School" . Due to old and decaying condition of the house, it was again shifted and placed at the present address (21,Roy Mathuranath Chowdhury Street) and till then it was named as "Cossipore Middle English School".
In the school compound the old house and related land was donated by a local person, Sri Shibkeder Dawn, a great admirer of education. His brother Sri Haridhan Dawn donated Company's Papers, valued Rs.10000/- for the building of the School. Then in memory of their father Sri Rameswar Dawn, the school was named as "Baranagar Rameswar Middle English School".
A loan of Rs.4000/- from the Provident Fund of existing teachers of the school helped to acquire the land of northern part of the school. After that, with the help of Sri Indu Bhushan Dutta, Sri Gobardhan Roy Chowdhury and others, the local education lovers, it was gradually increased to upper level step by step and Primary School culminated in Higher Secondary School.
Subsequently the school covered different stages of education system at that period. Then it was recognised as "Secondary School" in the year 1953.
Both boys and girls students learned in Primary and secondary level together. But the number of students started increasing rapidly year after year, specially a huge number of girls students admitted in the school and consequently shortage of space became a serious concern to move the institution forword smoothly. As a solution, it was dicided that a girls' secondary section would be disintegrated and would act as self-reliant and autonomous administrative body. It was executed soon after at the same building but in Morning Section and came to be known as Baranagar Rameswar Girls' High School. A self depenednt secondary girls' school started it's journey from the holy day of " Maghi Purnima".
At the time, some of the broad-minded local individuals were intimately attached with the society, it's people and more over the country. They were very much aware about the importance of education, especially the significance of women literacy. A commendable role was played by the teachers and non teching staffs also in this concern.
The tireless effort and contribution of these persons to make the institution flourish in undeniable and worth appreciating.
Presently our school is Government Sponsored, Bengali Medium, Morning Section, Secondary Girls' School. Till now our school is continuing to build the lives of blooming buds into a great human being and responsible citizen. It plays a significant role of all round development of a girl through not only the academic education, but also other various activities as we firmly believe in the ideology of Swami Vivekananda--"Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man".
