History

Kasturibai Lohia Vidyalaya, 34 Jogendra Basak Road, Kol-36, was established in the year 1976. The main moto was to spread education among the local Dalit (Harijan) students who were underprevileged and do not had access to education.

  Late Shri Ajit Kumar Ganguly (Former Chairman, Baranagar Municipality) was appointed as the president of the school management commitee, Shri Hridayanand Kunwar (Former Head Master of Hindi Upper Primary School) was appoined as secretary, Late Biren Kundu, Late Rama Basu, Late Samar Chandra Biswas, Late Moti Lal Hari were appointed as the members of the school management commitee and a primary school (Hindi medium) started on a vacant govt. land in th area with no basic aminitiesunder one roof. Shri Sambhunath Kumar was appointed as the Head Teacher of the school.

  Shri Hridayanand Kunwar, the secretary of the school approached a renouned industrialist Late Hari Narayan Lohia to donate some money for the construction of the school premises. Mr. Lohia helped in building the school and also paid for the purchase of benches, tables, chairs, blackboard etc.The school was named as "Kasuri Bai Lohia Vidyalaya" in the remembrance of his late mother Smt. Kasturi Bai Lohia.

  Further, the school got recognised by the Govt. of West Bengal on the 1st of January 1986.
