The school's journey started in pre-Independent turbulent Bengal with the heartfelt and extensive co-operation of noted social activist brother-duo doctors Sri Santosh Kumar Mukhopadhyay and Sri Satyendranath Mukhopadhyay. In the memory of their father, the school was nomenclated as 'Ray Saheb Baidyanath Institution'. Later, 'Ray Saheb' title was dropped and DumDum got one of its oldest and most reputed heritage schools. Two buildings situated at 49 & 50 Jagannath Tiwari Road and 17 HariMohan Dutta Road were received in inheritance. The school is presently functional in the second building.
