The school was originally established on 1st January, 1952 as a primary school in a loom house in a nearby location. Udaypur Haradayal Nag Adarsha Vidyalaya came up in its present campus as a seperate entity in 1958 which is considered to be its year of foundation. The school got recognition both as a Secondary and Higher Secondary School in 1961 with only Humanities at the H.S. level. Later, Science and Commerce stream got added to it in 1967.
The school building, though a small one then, was inaugurated on 8th May, 1961, coinciding with the birth centenary of Rabindranath Tagore, under the auspices of Swami Lokesheswarananda, the daughter of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Emily Puff and other dignitaries.
The school was named after Mahatma Haradayal Nag, the renowned freedom fighter, popularly known as the Gandhi of Chandpur, in the erstwhile district of Comilla in present Bangladesh. As the revered Haradayal Nag was a close aide to Mahatma Gandhi, much stress was given on Basic Education in the initial years.
Eventually, by the hardwork and sacrifices of all Headmasters, Teachers, Managing Committee Members and Well Wishers, today the school has emerged as one of the top most schools in the Barrackpore subdivision.
