History

Soon after independence, the quiet locale of Subhasnagar, wedged between Jessore Road and Barrackpore Trunk Road, felt the need for a school for their children. Hence was born Dum Dum Subhasnagar High School in January, 1954, followed by Dum Dum Subhasnagar Girls’ High School in January, 1955 housed in the same premises, 43 Sarat Bose Road, Calcutta 700065. The Girls’ section operated in the morning. Soon after, the Girls’ section was recognized as a High School by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. But where would the girls passing the Madhyamik Pariksha go? So, it was upgraded to Higher Secondary in 1966 but then it was only till class XI. Meanwhile, it was increasingly becoming difficult to run the two sections in the same premises. The Girls’ section meanwhile acquired land at 618, Sarat Bose Road, Calcutta 700065. In fact, the foundation for a school building had also been laid there. Only administrative paperwork was needed to begin the construction of the three-story building. It was only in 2012 that the Dum Dum Subhasnagar Girls’ High School had a building of its own with a small open space. Within two years, in 2014, it was upgraded to the Higher Secondary section (Arts) by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. We can proudly say today that our school is the only all-girls Higher Secondary school with 98% pass percentage in the board examination on the west of Dum Dum Cantonment, not to mention 100% pass percentage in the Madhyamik Pariksha.
