History

Dum Dum Krishna Kumar Hindu Academy is one of the finest Bengali medium schools for boys in the heart of Dum Dum, rejoicing its great legacy for more than 87 years.

The institution was founded on 3rd January, 1933 with the active support of eminent philomaths and socials reformers of Kolkata Suburban Cooperative Colony. An old house at the centre of the colony was chosen for this mission and began its successful journey with a handful of dedicated teachers. Sri Karuna Kishore Kargupta [founder of the school] was elected as the first President, Dr S. M. Ganguly as the first Secretary and Mr. J. N. Chatterjee took the charge as the first Head Master of the school.

A big break came in the history of the school after Independence with the inclusion of separate girls’ section under the managing committee of Dum Dum K. K. Hindu Academy. In 1951 twenty girls appeared in Matriculation Examination and achieved remarkable success. However, 1966 the girls section was sifted to a two-storeyed building at Dum Dum Road and renamed as  Motijheel Girls’ School. The school [Dum Dum K. K. Hindu Academy] stepped towards Higher Secondary education by introducing class eleven (Science and Arts) in 1961and commerce section in 1962. Later the school was accredited with Higher Secondary status in 1976.
