History

BIRAJMOHINI HIGH SCHOOL, the Alma mater of Goborhanda, a rural area under Tarakeswar block, in the district of Hooghly, was established in January 1971.

Sri Panchanan Kumar was kind enough to donate 0.35 decimal (35 satak) land for the establishment of this school. However, years afterwards, Sri Nirad Chandra Ghosh and his brothers of Gopinagar, Haripal, Hooghly donated 0.33 decimal ( 33 satak) land to be used as the playground of the school. Thereafter the school itself purchased 0.18 decimal land with the same money donated by Sri Samir Kumar Ghosh of Goborhanda, Hooghly.

To start school from January, 1971 Sri Bhanu Prakash Ash joined as the Headmaster along with two other teachers. Besides those who were in the forefront of this entire effort of establishment of this school were Sri Gour Mohon Dey (Goborhanda), Sri Abodh Chandra Mondal ( Piyasara), Sri Nirmal Kumar Dey (Goborhanda), Sri Dasurathi Chatterjee (Goborhanda), Sri Pinaki Ranjan Kumar ( Kalighat), Sri Bhutnath Dey (Goborhanda).

The school was recognised by WBBSE as a 4-class Junior(VIII) High School w.e.f. 01.01.1974 and X-class High School w.e.f. 01.05.2000 and upgraded as an H.S. School by the W.B.C.H.S.E. w.e.f. 01.07.2015.

As a banyan tree spreads its shadows to the weary wayfarers, this alma mater also showers drops of education to the villagers of this remote area.
