We come to know about the initial history of the Sarai Girls’ High School (H.S.) from the reminiscent of some old people of the village Sarai and from the documents of school administration. Some connoisseurs of education of Sarai village have started this school with a very few students and with minimal administrative elements. In 1957, the teaching process of this school began in some mud huts on the donated field of some villagers. Initially, the final evaluation was arranged on sixth standard, then on tenth standard or the school final. At this first level, there were some great people who were very enthusiastic in developing the school. Here are they-

Without them, it was impossible to build the school. There were contemporary teachers who fought against many hardships in order to gather students and Government donations. The amount they got as salary was irregular and minimal. But they never complained rather they compromised. They lit the candle of the school with great care among many obstacles like insufficiency of classrooms.
In future, when girl children of the village started to get admitted in the school, the deficiency of classroom was felt. With the donation of the contemporary teachers, Sk. Majed Ali and that of the Late Headmistress Jharna Seal and with the helping-aid of the Government a one-storey building was being developed. The second-storey was later built with the earnest help and efforts of every contemporary teachers of that time. Also the members of ‘Gram Parichalan Samiti’ helped a lot.
Sometimes later, the school’s Headmaster, being an MLA, donated 8 lakhs from the MLA’s Area Development Fund in order to build classrooms in the extended part of the new and old school buildings. At that time, retired Headmistress Dipika Samanta took special venture in assuring school’s authority on its land and in looking after the structuring of new school building. The school authority bought an adjacent land along with a shallow pond with the help of the villagers and with the donated money from the teachers. Later, with the sincere endeavor of the respected retired teacher Arunima Mitra , the school utilized the land and transformed it into a higher secondary school in 2016.
