History

Proud To Look Back

To unveil the history of Ilsoba Mondlai High School, we must go down the memory lane to the eve-year of Sepoy Mutiny, when with the help of some famous personalities like Sri Ram Gopal Ghosh (a resident of Ilsoba village and a high official of the then Postal Department), Pandit Ramgoti Nyayratna (a resident of Ilsoba village, widely noted for his famous work ‘Bangla Bhasa O Bangalir Sahitya Bisayak Prastab Grantha’ , and a closely associated student of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar), Sri Ganga Narayan Mallick (a landlord of Mondlai village), Sri Gangadhar Banerjee (a landlord of Mondlai village), Sri Durga Charan Sarkar (an enthusiast) and Sri Bhudeb Mukhopadhyay (an educationist and headmaster of Normal School, Hooghly), this school was founded at the junction of the two villages – Ilsoba and Mondlai – (a land of twenty-five kathas was donated by Sri Ram Chandra Chattopadhyay, a landlord of Mondlai village, on request of Sri Ram Gopal Ghosh) in the mid-nineteenth century, i.e. , 18th June, 1856, with not much pomp.

The first Managing Committee (comprised fifteen members like Sri Gangadhar Bandyopadhyay, Sri Harinath Sarkar, Sri Ramgoti Bandyopadhyay, Sri Ganga Narayan Mallick, Sri Durga Charan Sarkar, Sri Ram Gopal Ghosh and others) wrote the first constitution (1st April, 1857) to run this school, with the schedule to start the school at 10 a.m.  and end it at 4 p.m., along with the rules and regulations for the teachers and duties and responsibilities of the Headmaster.

In the year 1860, the pious feet of Pandit Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar embroidered the path of this famous school on 2nd January and this virtuous man wrote an inscription in favour of this school.

Here we should mention the names of some famous students of that time. In 1861, the first student of this school Sri Biharilal Ghosh of Ilsoba village passed the MB from Calcutta Medical College. In 1891, Sri Ram Chandra Ghosh of Mondlai village passed the MBBS and then LMF to become a famous doctor. Among other famous students we may recall the names of Professor Prafulla Kumar Ghosh of Mondlai village (stood 7th in the I.S.C. Examination, 1876), Sri Mukti Prakash Roy of Mondlai village, Sri Ashutosh Bandyopadhyay of Ilsoba village, Sri Prakash Chandra Mukhopadhyay of Mondlai village and so on.

However, since then we have been marching on, celebrating the Centenary (1955) and Sesquicentennial (2005) on which many eminent personalities like Sri Somnath Chattopadhyay (Lok Sabha Speaker), Sri Kanti Biswas (Education Minister), Dr. Pabitra Sarkar (great educationist) and others had come with their blessings so that our journey might get sheer spirit.

Kudos to those personalities, in every nook and corner of our society, whose hearty co-operation have always been propagating our zeal which rejuvenates us with the positive refrain : CHARAIVETI , CHARAIVETI !!! Move on, Move on !!! March along,  March along !!!
