History

Muthadanga R. K. High School is one of the premier and oldest schools  in the Arambagh Sub- Division. It is one of the few ancient schools that existed before Independence Established in 1906. This school opened up Windows of new learning to this relatively little known place of Bengal, about 100 kilometers away from Kolkata. Now this school is Govt. Sponsored with WBBSE index no-G3061, W.B.C.H.S.E code-117130, WBSCVET code-2510.

In 1905, the ‘Swadeshi Movement’ started in Bangladesh in protest of the Partition of Bengal. As a part of this movement programmes had been taken to spread 'Swadeshi Education’.Inspired by Rastraguru Surendranath  Bandopadhyay's eloquence, Jogendranath Kundu set out to establish the National School at Muthadanga. .As a result a 'Middle School' was established in 2006.Jogendranath Kundu donated almost all of his property and belongings for the school. Once he went to Kolkata for the school work and unfortunately lost his one leg forever.

The names of  Jogendranath Kundu, Dr.Jogindranath Banerjee, Dr Nagendranath Pal, Sarat Chandra Pal (Baro and Choto) have been remembered forever for their patriotism, sacrifice and financial support to the school.

In 1911, the policy of partition of Bengal was withdrawn by the British Government. Naturally  the movements to boycott the foreign goods and foreign education system stunned. In the changing situation, the then authority of the school tried to bring the institution under the control of the government and they received Rs, 20.00 in monthly grants given by the District Board as a sign of loyalty to the government.

In 1922, a memorable event took place in this rural village. Kalikananda Thakurdas ,a disciple of 'Ramkrishna Math' who with his spiritual fervour and vast  educational background electrified the minds of local good people and imparted a sense of dedication to the cause of upliftment of Muthadanga  and it's surrounding areas.He advised  the local people to spread the light of education in every corner of the locality. Actually  he named  the school as 'Muthadanga Ramkrishna High School.'

In 1927, the school was opened up to Class X for upgradation to high school.At that time the Headmaster of the school was Manoranjan Hajra. In 1928, Sri Manmonath Koner joined the school as Headmaster. At that tIme the two students named Sri Badal Chandra Mukhopadhyay ( Muthadanga) and Lalita Mohan Pal (Muthadanga) were brought from Barodongol High school and admitted  in this school as the students of Class X.But the school not having the recognition /approval from the University the two students had to sit for the Matriculation Examination  from  Sekendarpur High School and retained credit. Later they became the Headmaster and the Secretary of this school respectively. At last,1929 the Calcutta University approved the school As 'English High school 'due to  the utmost sincere efforts of the Headmaster and financial support of Nanigopal Mukherjee and Khagendranth Mitra.

Another memorable person is Charuchandra Pal.He donated Rs,10,000.00 as one time donation to the school. The then governor gave him a testimonial thanking him for his donation and the construction work of the school building was completed in 1931-32 .He was lifelong secretary of the school. He was an absolute devotee of Sree Ramkrishna Dev and in 1952 he established a temple of Sree Ramkrishna  Deb in the inner portion of the campus of the school.

In 1964, the school was upgraded to Higher Secondary school with commerce & Humanities stream.Just after one year Science stream was also introduced in H.S.Section.

In 1972, the number of girls students upto the class VIII was more than 150.The then authority of the school decided to start a separate girls' school. Muthadanga Ramkrishna High school had an old hostel building which was donated for setting up a new girls' school. As a result a new school was established in the same area in the same village. A new school was born, now the name of which is Muthadanga Nibedita Girls' High School.

Now the school is running with the Arts  & Science streams. The Science Laboratory and Library are well  equipped with all facilities. The goal of the school is to provide a healthy and caring environment in which all members of the institution irrespective of their class, religion or creed achieve personal excellence and where both effort & achievement are encouraged and nourished.
