THE GOLDEN HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL
In 1974,some social concious persons of the village Gourhati got together and started thinking about the enhancement of girls' education of the place. At that time ,the nearest girls' school was Arambagh Girls' High School, Arambagh, which was 17 kms away from the village. In this connection, it is to be remembered that the enlightened thinkers were
i) The then Headmaster of Gourhati Haradas Institution, Mr. Kanti Biswas,
ii) The then Secretary of Gourhati Haradas Institution, Mr. Gopalchandra Mal,
iii) politician Mr. Balaram Majumdar,
iv) notable doctor Mr. Tarapada Mondal.
Alongwith them were many kind villagers who extended their support for the set up of a new girls' school at Gourhati.
The site selection for the school started. Beside the road where the school is now situated, the land was partly owned by 4 to 5 people. They were convinced to donate the land which was then registered as gift of deed. Then the problem of fund was solved. There was a sweetmeat seller, Mr. Durgadas Modak ,who was childless and very unhappy .He was advised to donate his for the set up of the school and the school would be named after him which would his child. He agreed to the proposal .Beside him, many other kind people donated for the school in cash and kind.
As soon as fund was collected , construction of the school building started.According to the Bi-furcation scheme, if the total number of girls exceeds the total number of boys in a co-ed school, a new school can be set up for girls. The then Headmaster of the nearby co-ed school, Gourhati Haradas Institution supported the set up of anew girls' school and decided not to admit girls in that institution in classes V-VIII.
