                                                             Nalikul Deshbandhu Banimandir

Nalikul Deshbandhu Banimandir, an H.S academic institution with three general stream courses(Science,Arts & Commerce) is a leading Institution in Haripal Block in the district of Hooghly,West Bengal. Just 35 km away from kolkata, the school is located  to the south of Nalikul Railway Station of HWH-TAK Branch (E.R) that offers a panoramic view of the lush green playground and the picturesque school building. After Independence a surge of excitement to do something for the country and its people swept across India. It is very likely that some educated youths (Sailendranath Ghosh,Upendranath Santra,Anil Santra- to name afew) inspired by some elderly well-wishers felt the need to set up a high school. The school started in a house consisting of two rooms with a tin shed that belonged to Janendranath Karmakar and Kalipada Karmakar of Nalikul village The site was exactly where Joyguru Press is situated now. It was on 2nd January, 1951 that the the school was inagurated with Bishnupada Das as afounder teacher. But it was after Amalesh Chandra Majumder joined the school in 1953 that the school began to thrive. He was a man of great learning and a born leader and soon the baton was passed over to him. It was under his leadership that the school shifted to its present site in 1957.The land was donated by Jogindranath Das of Nawpara village. People from all walks of life contributed to set up the new school building. In January,1957 the school had obtained the recognition from WBBSE to teach up to class X. Prior to the Board’s affiliation students used to appear in the Board Exam through D.D. Bharati  Vidyapith. Now, officially  Amaleshbabu became the Headmaster and Bishnupadababu became the Assistant Headmaster. Teachers though fewer in number did yeomen’s job and students not only from neighbouring villages but also from far flung areas flocked in as the place was  easily accessible by rail and road (Bidyabati-Tarakeswar Road). Apart from academic activities, cultural and social activities were given equal importance and soon it became a centre of excellence. But Amaleshbabu’s energy and enthusiasm could not confine him to the narrow walls of his own institution. He was instrumental in setting up a separate Girls’ School, a Public Library and several other associations to look after the well being of poor people of the locality. He also wrote some books and took part in the educational radio shows. As a result of such works he was awarded with the prestigious National Award for Teachers for the year 1979 on 28 th March 1981. It was the most memorable day in the history of this institution. With the passage of time the school grew. In the year 2000 the school got the  affiliation from WBCHSE for the HS section. New buildings have come up and the number of students has increased considerably. It had earlier been a Madhyamik Exam Centre but from 2007 it has been an HS Exam Centre.Everything goes through highs and lows and this school also has witnessed many vicissitudes since 1951 but the journey continues with new challenges and experiences, new concepts and approaches.
