Goghat Bhagabati Balika Vidyalaya established in 1964 is the result of the dreams of a handful of local visionaries committed to the cause of formal education. It was a challenging task to establish a girls' school in such a rural society with a predominantly agriculture based economy, where educating girls was not a priority.
However, some educated people of this village felt the need for the education of the girls of their area. From their good thinking and effort they set up this school on 4th January 1964 on the birth place of Bhagabati Devi who always felt that the women are the worst sufferers of the society and they are exploited by other only because they are illiterate and uneducated.
The people who had great contibution for this school were respectable Harekrishna Ghanti, Dr. Dharanidhar Biswas, Dr. Anjan Kr Ghosh, Moulabi Abdur Rahim, Professor Laxmi Narayan Ghosh, Prof. Muktaram Goswami etc. Respectable Harekrishna Ghanti donated a lot of money for the foundation of the school, and the above mentioned respectable people had done a lot of things for this school without whose active support, help, guidance, direction, good will, this great effort of setting up a school could not be successful. Moreover, the help of the local people in various regards donating lands, collecting money, giving physical and mental labour was beyond description. Above all, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Honorable Sri Prafulla Chandra Sen helped getting the Govt. Recognition of this school.
We pay respect to all who were associated with this school.
