AKNA HIGH SCHOOL - A TRUE DESTINATION FOR THE LEARNERS

PRE INDEPENDENCE HISTORY:

About two hundred years ago within the ambit of the village Akna, there was no educational institution that could cater to the need of elementary education for the children of that locality. Consequently, the boys and girls of that expanding area were deprived of educational opportunities and would lose their purpose of life. With a view to spreading education among the common people of that area, some people came forward and established the school in 1889. Then the school was known as Middle English School where classes from I to VI were taught.

POST INDEPENDENCE HISTORY:

In 1963, West Bengal Board of Secondary Education recognized the school as Akna Jr High School and classes Vto VIII were taught there. The primary section began to run in the adjacent block.

CENTENARY OF THE SCHOOL:

Gradually the school completed one hundred years in 1989. The centenary of the school was observed on a grand scale. A school magazine was published on that grand occasion. The function created huge interest among the people of that locality.

RECOGNITION AS X-CLASS HIGH SCHOOL:

The school was upgraded to X-Class High School in 2005. The old building was replaced by a new one. Some ex-students extended their hands for the infrastructural development of the school. Government Grants as well as grants under BEUP and MPLAD scheme were also sanctioned.

POST CENTENARY SILVER JUBILEE:

The school organised its 125th anniversary with splendour in 2014. The festivity continued for one year. To commemorate the event, programs like Science Exhibition, Seminer, Quiz Contest and varios types of cultural programs were organised. Apart from the students and teachers, various guests, ex-students and guardians also participated the programme. All shared the festive joy with great enthusiasm.

VARIOUS ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY THE SCHOOL:

For the improvement in teaching learning process a computer laboratory under ICT project has also been set up in the school. A Solar Power PV plant has also been installed in the school for the supply of electricity and the excess energy produced from the plant is being spent in the interest of public service. The school offers variety of co-curricular activities for its students. The teacher-parent relationship is very deep. The Management Committee is always trying for the all-round development of the institution. The school authority is hopeful that the school will surely reach its destination towards light.
